Square Mouth Stoneware Ink

Clean off the dirt from this beautiful unique stoneware ink and you’ll find a mysterious diamond-shaped stamp.

This mark is an official British Design Registration stamp which functions like a Victorian barcode and we can actually decode the exact day it was registered.

The 28 at the top is the day of the month and if you look at the bottom there is a letter W, this letter code tells us it relates to March. The V on the right side means it the year 1876 with the number on the left being the package number.

From all this we can decipher that this was registered on 28th March 1876.
