Railway Ground Signal

Railway ground signals like this were first introduced in the early 19th century and were a critical part of early railway safety systems. While many modern railways have transitioned to electronic signals, semaphore signals are still in use in some regions, particularly on heritage railways or in areas with less traffic where the cost of modernization is not justified.
