J. Trentham & Son Amber Blob Top Bottle

This is a genuine late-nineteenth-century British soda bottle, made by J. Trentham & Son of the Patent Syphon Works in Great Bridge, which is in the West Midlands of England.

During the Victorian era, before mass production and supermarkets, mineral water and soda were bottled locally. Companies like J. Trentham & Son supplied fizzy water to homes, pubs, and businesses, using thick, reusable glass bottles designed to last.

But one of the important features of this bottle is the top. This is known as an amber blob top.

Blob-top bottles where the lip is a different colour to the body, like this amber finish are very desirable to collectors and whats also impressive is the maker. Bottles embossed with ‘J. Trentham & Son, Patent Syphon Works, Great Bridge’ are considered scarce, and collectors actively seek them out.

A bottle that once held carbonated mineral water more than a century ago… now revealed to be a valuable piece of Victorian history and worth far more than we could have ever expected.
