Hales Grenade No.2 Military
The No. 2 Hales Grenade was an early type of hand grenade developed by British inventor Martin Hale. It was used during the early stages of World War I. The grenade was notable for its distinctive design, featuring a long cylindrical body with a segmented outer shell, which was intended to fragment upon explosion, dispersing shrapnel over a wide area.
The No. 2 Hales Grenade was also characterized by its ignition mechanism. It utilized a rod that was thrown alongside the grenade. Upon landing, the rod would strike a percussion cap that ignited the fuse, leading to detonation after a short delay. This design aimed to provide soldiers with the ability to launch the grenade from a rifle, increasing its range and accuracy compared to hand-thrown grenades.
