Bayonet No.4 Mk II Spike 'Pig Sticker' Military
This is a Lee-Enfield Pig Sticker bayonet, an iconic weapon that saw action in some of the fiercest battles of World War II.
In 1941, the British Army needed a bayonet that could be mass-produced quickly, as the demands of war pressed heavily on weapons production. The result wasThe No. 4 Mk II spike bayonet, better known as the Pig Sticker.
The bayonet was specifically designed for the No. 4 Mk I Lee-Enfield rifle, the standard-issue firearm for British and Commonwealth forces. Unlike traditional bayonets, the Pig Sticker was a slender with a three-sided spike and had no cutting edge, just a sharp point. Soldiers nicknamed it the Pig Sticker, as it resembled a tool used for slaughtering livestock.
Factories in Britain, Canada, and even the United States produced these bayonets in massive quantities. The design was incredibly cost-effective and quick to manufacture, making it ideal during a time of war.
There were several variants of the Pig Sticker, the No. 4 Mk I, Mk II, and Mk III models. These mainly differed in terms of materials and manufacturing techniques."
Even after the war, the Pig Sticker remained in use for some time. However, by the 1950s, the British Army returned to more versatile knife-style bayonets for future conflicts."
